In the heart of South Africa's historic Cape Winelands, lying in the Drakenstein Valley between Franschhoek and Paarl on a 240 hectare working wine and fruit farm, is the magical creation of Babylonstoren.
Surrounded by a garden styled upon the mythical Garden of Babylon, and further afield the Simonsberg, Du Toitskloof and Franschhoek Mountains, Babylonstoren is a place so beautiful you escape from the world.
With over 300 years of history the 12 guest cottages and Manor House echo the Cape Dutch farm buildings. With outer white washed walls, ornate gables and thatched roofs, interiors are pleasantly cool in summer and heated by open hearths in winter.
At Babylonstoren you can do nothing at all; or you can spend hours walking or linger over lunch at the award winning Babel. And if that is not enough, you are surrounded by a plethora of award winning vineyards and wine farms.
Why we like it
When you get to Babylonstoren you physically relax in the beauty of it all. The rooms are enormous and the garden enchanting. There is nothing nicer than sitting on your veranda enjoying the superb farm wine in the balmy afternoon with a platter of delicious food.
