Why we like it

Australia’s west coast is less developed than the more famous east coast and as such is far less visited. However, if it is idyllic beaches, colourful reefs and world-class snorkelling you are looking for, it is seriously worth the journey. Perth is a fabulous city with a harbour to rival Sydney, colourful markets, world class restaurants and an offshore nature reserve. Then there is the Ningaloo Reef, located just metres from the shore so snorkelling with turtles and an array of colourful fish is possible just steps from the beach. Alternatively head off shore by kayak, dropping anchor in the sand to snorkel in some of the deeper lagoons. The accommodation we recommend only serves to enhance, with stays in a beautiful historical building in Perth followed by a remote beach side bush camp just steps from the ocean – bliss.

Don't forget, we will customise this journey to suit you.

A Rare Ocean Paradise

Whale sharks and humpback whales migrate along this coastline every year so if you wish to come face to face with them ensure you time your trip accordingly. Whale sharks frequent the waters from April to July and the humpback whales from August to October. The waters of Ningaloo are home to another of the oceans giants, the manta ray and are also a major breeding ground for various species of turtle which nest on the beaches between September and December.

Fly non-stop to Perth

Following a mining boom in the area, Perth and the surrounding areas are enjoying investment and restoration leading to the tagline ‘the re-birth of Perth’. Elizabeth Quay has re-connected the city from the Swan River to the harbour and is home to gourmet restaurants, boutique hotels and a buzzing atmosphere akin to that of Sydney Harbour.

The city is also home to some wonderful parks and gardens, nearby islands, lovely beaches and a thriving wine industry to the south of the city. Add to this the option to now fly non-stop to Perth with Qantas.

Margaret River Or The Northern Territories Extension

For a longer holiday, this trip would combine really nicely with some time exploring Margaret River, to the south of Perth. This combination would marry particularly well if travelling in October when the weather in this area becomes nicer. Alternatively, the Northern Territories works perfectly from June to September for wildlife, waterfalls and Aboriginal culture.

When to travel

As with most parts of Australia, not all areas of Western Australia are good to visit at that same time. The Ningaloo Reef is wonderful from April to September and it is possible to swim with whale sharks and humpback during a number of these months. From October to March, this area is hot but there are sea breezes and the waters are glorious.

The Margaret River region to the south of Perth is perfect from October to March. Outside of this period it can be wet and cold.

The far north from Broome to The Kimberley has a more extreme climate and most properties close from October to March when the monsoon rains arrive and the weather is very humid. These areas are perfect from June to September.
