Montelimar Beach, Pacific Coast, Nicaragua

Pacific Coast

Dubbed the Emerald Coast, Nicaragua’s Pacific coastline is vividly beautiful. The gem-like jungle tumbles down to meet the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Aside from surfing and dozing in hammocks, this coastline hosts all sorts of sea-based activities from sailing to deep-sea fishing and whale watching, while the backdrop of forested peaks can be explored by foot or on horseback offering endless wildlife opportunities.

About the Pacific Coast

Admired for its tumbling Pacific surf and crescent-shaped bay of golden sand dunes, the former fishing hamlet of San Juan del Sur is the most famous region and has undergone something of a renaissance. Having managed to retain its easy-going charm, San Juan del Sur is consistently popular with surfers and those seeking relatively peaceful beaches without all the unnecessary tourist developments attached.

However, the coast offers every type of beach from rocky crags to wide sandy beaches (black or golden). While a few fishing villages dot the way, miles of coastline is still completely underdeveloped and can be walked without encountering a person or building.

John Faithfull

This volcanic country offers an epic landscape of smoking cones, and one of John’s recommendations is to climb the young cindercone of Cerro Negro before tumbling down a vertiginous slope of light and (fairly) forgiving pumice scree.
