Why we like Ranchlands Camp

We love it for its authenticity. For advanced riders, this is one of the best ways to experience prairie life. Join the ranch hands from sunrise to sunset or just relax and admire the open plains of America’s west. We love how involved you can be and there is something rather magical about the prairie being your home. All the cooking is done over wood-burning fires by your host and after dinner, retire to your tent and a comfortable bed with an oil lamp in hand. It is also worth noting that Ranchlands Camp can be booked on an exclusive basis, offering a fantastic multi-generational holiday where activities can be customised to suit all ages and abilities.

Facilities

• Canvas tent with full-size double bed, desk, chair and towels provided
• Hot water shower unit with enough space to hang clothes and great views of the prairie
• Toilet facility in the form of a long a drop
• Wood fires are used for all cooking and heating elements of the camp
• Light provided by Kerosene lamps

Activities

The camp offers weekly workshops during the early summer months. Branding week in May is a busy time for the ranch and you can get as involved as you wish. Gathering the cattle, tagging, vaccinating and branding is part of the daily routine. Early starts are required as well as an intermediate to experienced riding ability. Horsemanship weeks are aimed to improve the connection with the horse and learn how to communicate at a deeper level.

Days are spent with one on one instruction, education and demonstrations. In addition, Painting Horses week for intermediate to skilled artists, provides fantastic opportunities to further develop technical drawings of horses through photos of horses running, study sessions of corralled horses to study horse anatomy as well as being given demonstrations and critiques.
