The Kings Highway

This ancient highway connects Petra in the south with Amman in the north and is dotted with ancient biblical sites and crusader castles.

Jordan’s deserts are dotted with ancient castles, farming estates, forts, hunting lodges and caravanserai. Widely varied in function, architectural style and creative embellishment, most were the domain of Omayyad princes in the first half of the 8th century. Qusair Amra with its mosaics and frescos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the black basalt fort at Azraq was the headquarters of Lawrence of Arabia and Qasr el-Hallabat, Qasr Kharanah and Qasr Mushatta are all well worth a visit too.

After breakfast, take a panoramic tour of the city before driving south to Madaba, Jordan's most important Christian centre. Take a short walk to visit the Church of St George and its intricate mosaic map of the Holy Land. Continue to Mt Nebo for superb panoramic views of the Jordan valley and towards the Holy Land. Drive through the desert highway to arrive at Little Petra.

Day 4

Petra Sightseeing
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Petra, accompanied by a private local guide.

Petra is the legacy of the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who settled in south Jordan more than 2,000 years ago. From here they dominated the trade routes of ancient Arabia, levying tolls and sheltering caravans laden with Indian spices and silks, African ivory and animal hides. The kingdom endured for centuries and became widely admired for its refined culture, massive architecture and ingenious complex of dams and water channels. By the 16th century however, Petra was completely lost, and remained so for 300 years until it was rediscovered by a Swiss traveller, Burckhardt, in 1812. View the 'Treasury', Roman-style 3,000-seat theatre, and numerous temples, facades, tombs, baths and funerary halls.

Day 5

Drive from Petra to the Dead Sea via Kerak

Drive from Petra to the Dead Sea stopping en route at Kerak to climb the battlements of this hill top crusader castle. A journey time of approximately two hours.

The Dead Sea valley is typically Mediterranean with mild winters and hot summers and is a natural greenhouse rich in minerals. In ancient times it was one of the most fertile places in the Middle East and some of the world's oldest civilisations sprang up here.

Day 7

Driven Dead Sea to Jerusalem

Travel by private car across the King Hussain Bridge (also known as Allenby Border Crossing) to Jerusalem. VIP Meet and Greet will be organised and an Israeli guide will be waiting to assist.

Steeped in religion, fiercely disputed and rich in history; Jerusalem is one of the oldest continually occupied cities in the world. Sacred to the three largest monotheistic faiths, the city was founded almost 7,000 years ago.

Claimed as capital by both Israelis and Palestinians alike, Jerusalem's in-limbo status doesn't prevent it being one of the greatest sites of pilgrimage in the world. Religious wonders pack its streets and the faithful come in droves to pay their respects.

You will be staying at The Mamilla, bed and breakfast

Day 8

Full Day Tour of Jerusalem
A full tour of the Old City of Jerusalem will introduce you to this place of intense sanctity to Jews, Christians and Muslims, where holy sites tumble over each other. Visit the sites most holy to the non-Christian faiths; the Kotel (Western Wall of the Second Temple), and visit or view the Dome of the Rock. Your expert guide will unpeel layers of history and provide an overview of what Jerusalem means to the three monotheistic religions. Explore the Christian heritage of the Old City more deeply, exploring sites such as the Garden of Gethsemane, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, sections of the Via Dolorosa, and Mount Zion including the tomb of King David and the room of the last supper. See iconic views over Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, an important heritage site mentioned in both the Old and New Testaments as the place from which the resurection of the dead will occur, and as a place from which Jesus preached and ascended to heaven. Throughout the tour you will focus on Jesus's acts in the holy city, his crucifixion and ultimate rising. We have specifically noted that you would like to cover the following sites: Mount of Olives, Garden of Gethseme, Old City, Al-Aqsa Mosque & Dome of the Rock, Via Dolorosa, Mount Zion, Via Dolorosa, Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
