Tiger Safari in India

Nothing prepares you for seeing your first tiger in the wild. The world’s most iconic big cat is a mightily impressive sight, exuding power, guile and athleticism. An increase in tiger numbers means an even greater opportunity to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

The history of tiger conservation in India is a complicated one. The recent population growth, however, offers hope not only for the big cats in the area but also for endangered species across the planet.

India, a country that is almost bursting at the seams with its human population, has managed to find a way to accommodate and protect tigers. What then, is possible in the rest of the world?

Why India?

India is the best country for wild tiger safaris. With over 100 national parks to choose from, it’s important to consult our experts for the latest advice on where these magnificent creatures are most frequently sighted. Historically, the best places to see tigers have been Bandhavgarh National Park, Kanha and Ranthambore. However, our clients visiting Pench National Park, Tadoba and Panna are also experiencing successful sightings.

VIP permits

To avoid the crowds and enjoy the parks when other visitors are back in their lodges, ask our experts about an all-day VIP permit. Perfect for photographers wanting more time with the park’s wildlife, these permits are available in Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Pench, Panna, Satpura and Tadoba. An all-day VIP permit is expensive but worth every rupee to have the park to yourself without the distraction of other vehicles.

Charlotte Lawton

Charlotte is the Conde Nast Traveller chosen Specialist for India, Bhutan and Sri Lanka.

Growing up in Hong Kong and Nepal gave me an early connection to Asia, which deepened after university when I spent two years managing a safari camp in Central India and travelling widely across the subcontinent. Drawing on this first-hand knowledge and trusted local contacts, I create journeys that connect you deeply with the people and places you visit.
