Murchison Falls

The world famous Murchison Falls are impressive - the Nile forces its way through a 7 metre gap in the rocks and tumbles 40 metres below, whilst in the background the pacified river winds its way towards Lake Albert. The best way to see and feel the falls is by boat, as not only do you get to experience the full power of the Falls, but can keep an eye out for some of Africa's largest crocodiles basking on the shores. The Park is the best place in Uganda to search for the shoebill stork.

  • Visit the Falls, with a walk up to the viewpoint at the top for full effect
  • Spot some of the old tuskers in the huge elephant herds found here
  • Head out to the marshes with a guide to search for the incredible shoebill stork
  • Try your hand at fishing for Nile perch and tiger fish – some weighing over 120kg

Uganda's largest National Park, cut in half by the Nile, offers a varied landscape from dense rainforest on the hilly ranges in the south-west to undulating savannah in the north-west. The prime area for game viewing is the peninsula between the Victoria and the Albert Nile's, known as the Buligi Circuit, where the concentration of animals is the highest including an increasing number of excellent lion sightings along with the famous and elusive shoebill stork. It also offers some of the best fishing in the country for those brave enough to take on the challenge.
