Baker’s Lodge

Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda

Named after Samuel Baker, the first European to view and name Murchison Falls, this intimate and upmarket safari lodge sits in a commanding position on the south bank of the Nile River, under shady trees.

The thatched central lounge, bar and dining area on raised decking allow uninterrupted views across the wetland areas to the river beyond, where a host of water birds can be spotted amongst the elephants, hippos and crocs found along the shore. The handful of cleverly designed en-suite cottages ensures privacy and individual river views making the most of the spectacular setting.

Given its location, it is no surprise that many of the most exciting activities take place on the water, from world-class fishing, boat safaris and trips to the falls themselves, but for the traditionalists, there are game drives through the park and the chance to stretch the legs and enjoy some chimpanzee trekking in the nearby Budongo Forest. Possibly one of Murchison’s best lodges in terms of style, location and atmosphere.

Why We Like Baker's Lodge

There are few better places to appreciate the power and size of the Nile than on this lodge’s deck, which extends out over the swirling waters of this iconic river. Dawn and dusks are beautiful here and you can expect a chorus of accompanying grunts from nearby pods of hippos in the shallows.
