Tailor-Made Holiday

Spitsbergen - Dog Sledding Adventure

Camp out and mush your own team of huskies across the frozen wilderness

7 days

from £3,100pp (excluding flights)

Take to the ice for a fantastic journey across Svalbard with your very own team of huskies. This dog sledding trip is for those looking for a true expedition across the Arctic and who don't mind a couple of nights camping out. Experience the incredible views and wilderness of the Arctic.

  • A hands-on dog sledding adventure
  • Experience the exhilaration of mushing your own dog team across wild Arctic landscape
  • Camp out on the Arctic ice and search for reindeer, Arctic fox and maybe even polar bear
  • Magical light conditions in the spring months as the sun returns to these northerly latitudes

The journey begins in Longyearbyen. A small mining town, and the administrative centre for the Svalbard archipelago. With just one main street, and locals getting round by skidoo, it is fun but a slow paced town. Evenings can liven up in the bars with off duty miners and visiting tourists alike.  Stay at the Basecamp Hotel, a small characterful hotel that is the epitome of its environment.  A pine chalet, with driftwood, sealskin, and slate adorning the rooms and communal areas. Warm and welcoming it is the ideal base from which to start and end an arctic adventure.

Own Huskey team

Mushing your own dog team across frozen fjords is a thrilling and liberating experience. Four days of feeding and harnessing your dogs with expert guidance will ensure they will be your faithful hounds for the duration of the trip.

On the ice

Spend two days travelling across the Arctic wilderness. Routes and distances are dependent on the strength of the ice. The first day will be spent mushing through valleys and mountains before spending the night on the ice in tented accommodation.

Continue the following day to Isfjord Radio, once an important radio station for the region and now a charming boutique lodge which will be your base for two nights.  Spend more time on the ice and the chance for a dip in the Arctic Sea. Journey back with your faithful team of huskies, spending another night camping on the ice before returning to Longyearbyen.

Roxy Dukes, Travel Expert

"Roxy filled us with enthusiasm and came up with some great ideas for a trip. We liked the idea of a slightly 'off the beaten track experience' and some private bespoke activities and that's exactly what we've had. Thank you!"

"Roxy created a wonderfully interesting route which was the basis for a super trip. She also chose lovely places for us to stay and interesting activities for us to participate in, introducing us to the idea of private guided experiences which we thoroughly enjoyed."

Sue Grimwood, Travel Expert

"It was tremendously helpful to be able to speak to someone who had been to Antarctica before - Sue had been on the ship we had booked, so was able to give us some very useful information. We felt that at every stage of the booking process that we were in safe hands. "

""I was uncharacteristically worried about this trip - neurotic some might say - and I was given 110% support and help with everything. I had been disappointed by not being able to get a space on the 2014 trip and so Sue was stuck with me for 2 years - a testament to her patience and professionalism. I was confident in Sue - she knows Antarctica and speaks from experience, that is worth a huge amount. Emails, which I would send were responded to almost immediately.""
