UNESCO World Heritage

This sea journey plots a course that only the most nimble of expedition ships can access. From the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Gros Morne with its extraordinary geological features to the remote Torngat Mountains National Park with its deep and convoluted fjords. Aside from remarkable scenery, this voyage offers a fascinating cultural insight into the history of Newfoundland, including its French, Basque and Viking influences. The archaeological remains found at L’Anse aux Meadows date to approximately 1000 AD and today, a superb interpretive centre and reconstructions of the several Norse-style sod buildings make it a must-see for any visitor to Newfoundland.

Cross the Davis Strait

Cross the Davis Strait towards landfall in Greenland, staying on deck as much as possible in the hopes of spotting minke whales, humpback whales and other marine mammals. Call at Nuuk on the western coast of Greenland, one of the world’s northernmost capital cities, and explore one of the many fjords for which the area is famed. See charming fishing villages,visit local communities and sail the spectacular Sondre Stromfjord to Kangerlussuaq, the town at its eastern head that means ‘the big fjord’.

Black Bears, Reindeers & Falcons

While the wildlife is never guaranteed, the breeding and nesting seabirds can be seen in abundance, and the potential sighting of whales, polar bears and seals will keep you scanning the icebergs and horizon daily. Other wildlife frequently seen in this area includes humpbacks, reindeer, caribou, black bear, moose and birds of prey such as falcons and eagles. When in the region of the Torngat Mountains, spend time on dry land hiking or zodiac cruising through some of Canada’s most dramatic landscapes.
