The Inside Passage

The Inside Passage in Alaska’s south-east is synonymous with cruising. At Steppes we offer a range of expeditionary voyages aboard small ships that allow for intimate and in-depth exploration.

From this floating base, not only sail through the scenery but get up close exploring on foot or by small boat, through forests and muskeg, along deserted beaches or next to towering glaciers. With a sparse population, ancient forests, glaciers and salmon-rich rivers, this is a wonderful region for wildlife. The Inside Passage is made up of over a thousand named islands and hundreds of islets, and is home to the Tlingit and Haida first nation’s peoples.

Sue Grimwood

I was inspired to travel south from an early age. My form teacher when I was nine made us listen to tapes from Shackleton’s expeditions, I didn’t know it at the time, but it obviously left a deep impression on my psyche.
