Aegean Sea, Turkey

Aegean Coast

The Aegean Coast has the highest concentration of ancient sites in Turkey – it’s hard to find a city younger than 3,000 years old along this beautiful coastline.

The Aegean Coast (or west coast) of Turkey stretches from the North near Istanbul, down the coastline to the boundaries of Marmaris. Dotted along the coastline are attractive fishing villages, now popular holiday resorts and inland is splendid scenery and beautiful ruins.

Why we like the Aegean Coast

This stunning coastline is home to the pretty fishing village of Assos and the charming port of Bodrum, which, with its striking crusader castle, is a popular place to spend a few days. Travel inland to explore the much less known yet beautiful ruins and sculptures at Aphrodisias.

Slightly less visited but no less impressive are the ancient cities of Ionia: Priene, Miletus and Didyma.

My travels were first inspired by my love of the UK, which I take as much pleasure in exploring as countries far and wide. For me, travel is all about the adventure, the people I meet and the food I sample along the way.
