Amanruya is also a perfect base to visit one of the best-preserved ancient sites in the world – Ephesus. The lively port town of Bodrum is easily reached for a day trip and is home to a 15th-century castle, Museum of Underwater Archaeology plus an atmospheric marina and old town. There are also several small local villages where it is possible to try your hand at traditional crafts such as weaving and carpet making as well as pottery. For the more active, trek some of the coastlines at dusk as the sun sets over hidden coves or sail, canoe and snorkel the Aegean.
