John Faithfull
One of John’s favourite spots is the viewing platform at the Miraflores Locks, where he has spent many happy (read “geeky”) hours being mesmerised by the machinations of the canal’s lock gate process.

Bocas del Toro is a remote province nestled in the north-western corner of Panama close to the border of Costa Rica. The reef off Bocas is rich with marine life. Equally the jungle interior of a number of the islands is teeming with tropical birds and amphibians.
The paradisiacal islands and cays of Bocas del Toro Archipelago are crowned with dense forest and skirted with sandy beaches, mangroves and an extensive coral reef system preserved by the Bastimentos Marine National Park.
The most developed island within the archipelago is Isla Colon, a charming fishing community dotted with pastel-coloured wooden houses and home to a distinctive Caribbean ambience. Isla Carenero is a more peaceful and modest retreat just a short water taxi ride away, and south of Isla Colon is Isla Cristobal frequented by bottlenose dolphins.
