A former mansion owned by a wealthy Qing dynasty silk merchant, this 19-room boutique hotel is a member of Relais & Chateaux. Set around four traditional style courtyards; bamboo floors, rice paper ceilings and ancient carved wooden windows come together to create an elegant and authentic finish.

Tables and chairs sit outside each of the guest pavilions leading onto traditional brick-paved walkways interspersed with bamboo and water features, all of which are beautifully lit at night.

Activities

There is plenty to explore in and around the city of Pingyao itself, however, within the hotel, there are some fun experiences on offer. Try your hand at paper cutting or shoemaking or maybe take a lesson in massage or noodle making. The hotel also offers the chance to try some wonderful local specialities such as traditional hotpot or a Chinese fondue, both of which can be taken in one of the pretty courtyards and are an interactive and very local experience.
