Big Cave Camp

Resting atop an enormous granite whaleback with commanding views across Matobo National Park, is Big Cave Camp. This thatched lodge incorporates the colossal boulders into its architecture, boasting a secluded, intimate retreat amidst ancient Khoisan Rock art.

There are seven A-frame lodges each with en-suite bathrooms and private balconies. The granite under thatch structures ensure they are cool in summer and warm in winter. Accommodation is spacious and family rooms are available for those with small children, as well as a honeymoon suite. Massive boulders form the backdrop of the central living areas of the camp. The Leopard’s Lair includes a teak bar, lounge and communal dining room, there is a cosy adjacent library, an outdoor natural rock pool and sundeck with a nearby pool boma for midday refuge and ice cold drinks; and at sundown, this cave-style boma is romantically lit with lanterns as guests enjoy the traditional camp fire.
