Positive Impact Travel

Curated holiday ideas that have a positive impact around the world.

At Steppes we believe in the power of travel as a force for good. We are firm believers in the idea that once you are able to explore our world, you will have the privilege of being an ambassador for change to protect species, their habitats and global communities.

Below, you will find a hand-picked selection of holiday ideas, properties and experiences that showcase the positive impact that travel can have. It is by no means an exhaustive list and don’t forget, all our holidays can be created based on causes and interests close to your heart.

Jaguar in Brazilian Pantanal

Conservation, Community and Carbon

We look at these three pillars of sustainability to see whether our partners are supporting local conservation efforts, investing in their local communities and mitigating their carbon footprint. For example, Pousada Trijuncao in Brazil uses tourist activity to ignite the local economy by employing local people and is a leading business in the region with regard to fair employment conditions and creating economic opportunities. And Pacuare Lodge in Costa Rica purchased 340 hectares of primary rainforest which is prime wildlife habitat. This has a ‘no-visitor’ policy, but researchers from the Jaguar Program can access the area for their vital work on jaguar conservation.

Ocean holidays making a difference

As a traveller, your choices can make a difference. We’ve compiled a list of destinations that have been either designated Marine Protected Areas or have been given Hope Spot status by marine conservationist Sylvia Earle’s Mission Blue project. These destinations rely on the revenue from tourism to help fund their protected status. Our collection of holiday ideas and experiences below not only deliver outstanding marine-based experiences, they also contribute to the protection of habitat, communities and wildlife in sea-side environments.
