Where to stay in Argentina

Set within 600 private acres of vast pampas wilderness, Estancia La Bamba de Areco is one of the oldest family-run working estancias in all of Argentina and a Relais & Chateaux property to boot.
Retaining the ambience of a cosy private home yet harnessing the gaucho traditions that make estancias so magical, this colonial-style property is encompassed by plane trees and comprised of a series of houses, a traditional stable and an al fresco pool.
Its 11 intimate rooms, all featuring hardwood floors and whitewashed walls, are decorated with colourful local textiles and original equine artworks and afford views over the grounds and its grazing horses. Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the estancia is La Pulperia, a shadowy and atmospheric refurbished 18th-century inn-turned-lounge where guests can gather to swill Malbec, delve into a novel, or chat to a gaucho by the open fire.
With all meals included, guests can tuck in to the chef’s legendary crepes with dulce de leche and partake in an authentic Argentine asado washed down with wine.
Unapologetically authentic and resolutely determined to nurture all things gaucho, Estancia La Bamba de Areco invites guests to relish in the enviable simplicity of traditional rural life through asados and mate tasting. Horse whisperer shows are conducted daily, home baked empanadas accompany barbeque lunches, and sociable dogs run around the house and grounds.
Don a fringe poncho and saddle up for a horse ride across the pampas in the company of a gaucho, attend the annual Gaucho Festival in San Antonio de Areco or observe a thrilling polo game played by the international team that use the estancia as their base.
Ride a mountain bike to the nearest town to visit the master silversmiths in their workshops, explore the charming Ricardo Guiraldes Gaucho Museum, or simply spend an afternoon flitting between the garden pool and inviting sun loungers.
Estancia La Bamba de Areco is situated less than two hours outside of Buenos Aires in the expansive pampas, near to the historic gaucho town of San Antonio de Areco.
