The waters surrounding the Bay of Islands are a haven for water sports with world class fishing as well as diving and snorkelling, all of which can be arranged. Nearby there are some fabulous golf courses, all accessible by helicopter as well as excellent opportunities for horse riding plus the nearby town of Russell which was New Zealand’s first capital city.
Eagles Nest are involved with kiwi conservation; helping to keep the peninsula area predator free and constructing kiwi houses, a type of nesting box, for the birds to rest, nest and defend itself in necessary. North Island weka birds also reside in the area, even rarer than the kiwi, as well as little blue penguins on the estates beaches.
