Beautiful New Zealand vineyard

Wellington and Martinborough Wine Regions

A fine harbour city and a centre for culture and the arts it is also home to New Zealand’s Parliament, Victoria University and the famed Te Papa Museum.

The last stop before reaching the South Island is New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington, with a host of restaurants, cafes, galleries and theatres and Wellington is well worth visiting for a few days.

The area surrounding Wellington boasts rugged coastlines, some excellent walking and several less known but wonderful wine producers.

Marlborough Sound

Depart Wellington and cross the Cook Strait to reach the South Island and Marlborough Sound; a network of waterways created from sunken river valleys. What remains is 1500 kilometres of weaving, picturesque coastline, perfect to explore on foot or sea kayak and regularly frequented by dolphin and orca.

Yangikala Canyon Visit

Hike to the top for never ending views, stay below to watch the colours ignite as the sun sets or even camp out in this remote setting.

Akagera birding

One of the best birding spots in Rwanda, Akagera has over 480 species of birds, including savannah birds as well as raptors and many endemic species such as the red faced barbet. On some of the many lakes water birds including the marabou stork, the African fish eagle and the open billed stork.

Kayak on Lake Kivu

Explore by kayak, immersing yourself in the lake scenery as bird fly above and fisherman mend their nets in preparation for the evenings work.

Riding bareback with gauchos on Argentinian pampas

I held on tightly and at times closed my eyes as my horse galloped across the pampas.  I trusted the gaucho and surrendered to the feeling of being out of control and it was totally worth it! Exhilarating and such fun, and I was well rewarded with a glass of Argentina’s finest Malbec and the most delicious fillet of beef cooked asado style.

Hiking and snowboarding in Tongariro National Park in New Zealand

One of my favourite places on earth the volcanoes and mountains of the Tongariro National Park are just breathtaking.  Flying down the active volcano of Mount Ruapehu on my snowboard with a local Maori guide, and trekking across the alpine terrain surrounded by volcanic craters in and snowy peaks, these memories will stay with me forever.
