The holiday begins with 3 nights in Cairo staying at the Mena House Hotel, one of the most unique hotels in Cairo. With a rich and colourful history and surrounded by 40 acres of verdant green gardens, this palatial hotel is located in the shadows of the great Pyramids of Giza. Using Mena House as your base, explore the extraordinary sites of Cairo, the best introduction point for a journey on the Nile.


Luxor is home to some of Egypts greatest temples and sites, explore both the east and west banks of the city taking in the Valley of the Kings and the splendours of Karnak Temple to name a few. Stay at the wonderfully atmospheric, riverfront hotel Sofitel Old Winter Palace

The Nile & Oberoi Zahra

A Nile cruise offers the perfect platform from which to access many of the country’s greatest archaeological treasures. There are many boats to choose from but the Oberoi Zahra and the Oberoi Philae are certainly two of the best. Spend four, five, six or seven nights gently cruising from Luxor to Aswan, visiting ancient temples and sites en route with plenty of time to relax by the pool while life on the Nile floats past. 


Your Nile cruise ends in the picturesque city of Aswan, where the Nile ends and Lake Nasser begins. Spend a few days exploring the Nubian villages and river islands of Aswan whilst staying at the Sofitel Old Legend Cataract, perched above the Nile.

Day 1

Fly London to Cairo

Cairo is a bustling, cosmopolitan city and the largest in Africa. It is a city whose celebrated highlights tell of a fascinating history. Most notable are the ancient pyramids of Giza, but others include Coptic churches, Islamic monuments and world class museums. History lives on through the bazaars and cafés that thrive in the city and haven't changed for centuries.

Day 2

Full day sightseeing of Memphis, Saqqara and Giza
At the site of Memphis, visit the ancient capital that was a flourishing metropolis during the time of the Pharaohs. See the statue of Ptah, the patron god of Memphis, the colossal statue of Ramses II and an exquisitely carved Alabaster Sphinx.

At Saqqara, see the famous Step Pyramid of King Zoser, the first freestanding stone structure in the world. The walls of the tombs of the nobles of the past are a great example of the beauty and excellence of Ancient Egyptian art and insight into daily life in Ancient Egypt.

The Great Pyramids at Giza are the only survivors of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World – even 2,000 years ago they were one of the the world’s greatest tourist attractions. Also visit the solar boat museum and the Sphinx.

Day 3

Half Day Visit to the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities
The museum houses the world’s greatest collection of Egyptian antiquities from 2700 BC to the 6th century AD, including thousands of statues, jewels and artefacts from nearly every period of ancient Egypt. Admire the amazing treasures of the young king, Tutenkhamun, including his famous mask made out of solid gold and in a perfect state of preservation. There are 12 rooms filled with treasures from King Tutenkhamun’s tomb, which was discovered in 1922 virtually untouched.

Islamic Cairo tour
Visit Islamic Cairo, the graceful Mohamed Ali Mosque and the ancient Citadel, a spectacular medieval fortress perched on a hill above the city. Originally built by Salah El-Din in 1176 to fortify the city against the Crusaders, the Citadel was modified and enlarged over the centuries by subsequent rulers and today is a complex of three mosques and four museums.

Day 4

Fly Cairo to Luxor

Embark the Oberoi Zahra, settle in and enjoy lunch on board. This afternoon visit the impressive Temples at Karnak and the Luxor museum. Dinner back on board and overnight in Luxor.

Located on the east bank of the Nile, Luxor is gateway to the 'world's largest open air museum'. The Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, the Hatshepsut Temple and the Karnak Temple are all within easy reach. So too are the feluccas and cruise boats that sail the Nile - back and forth from Aswan offering a relaxed way to explore Egypt's fascinating history.

Day 5

Breakfast, then transfer to the West Bank, to explore the West Bank of ancient Thebes. Visit the Valley of the Kings with its royal tombs, King Tut's tomb and Ramses "the Six". This is followed by a visit to the temple of Madinat Habu and on the way back to the cruise boat stop at the Colossus of Memnon. You will then sail to Qena, before having lunch on board. Time to relax before visiting the Temple of Dendarah, dedicated to Hathor, the Goddess of Music, Love and Joy. Dinner and overnight in Qena.

Day 6

Early morning sailing to Luxor. After breakfast visit the West Bank to see the Tombs of the Nobles and Dier El Madina, the site of a very special workman’s village, whose craftsmen built and decorated the tombs of the Pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings. Lastly, visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of the most beautiful temples in Egypt. Lunch followed by time at leisure. This afternoon visit the graceful Luxor Temple. Before dinner this evening there will be a cocktail reception with live music at the club lounge. Overnight in Luxor.

Day 7

Breakfast on board before a leisurely sailing to Edfu. Early this evening visit the Temple of Edfu, dedicated to Horus the Falcon God. Considered the best preserved temple of the Ancient world, it is also the second largest after Karnak. Dinner on board and overnight in Edfu.

Day 8

Early morning sail to Aswan before breakfast. This afternoon visit the High Dam and Philae temple, dedicated to the Goddess Isis. Dinner and overnight in Aswan.

Day 9

Sail to Kom Ombo temple before breakfast. One side of the temple is dedicated to the Crocodile God Sobek, God of Fertility and Creator of the World. The other side is dedicated to the Falcon God Haroeris, also known as Horus, the Elder. Return to the boat and sail to Aswan. This afternoon visit the Botanical Gardens by Felucca, located on Kitchener's Island. Before dinner this evening there will be a sound and light show. Overnight in Aswan.

Day 10

Breakfast on board followed by an optional visit to Abu Simbel, the famous temple of Ramses II and his favourite wife Nefertari. Return back to the cruise boat where the rest of the day is free to relax or explore the souks of Aswan. This evening there will be a farewell cocktail reception with entertainment. Dinner and overnight in Aswan.

Day 11

One last breakfast on board before disembarking.

Aswan is gateway to the desert, Lake Nasser and Abu Simbel. As far south as it is possible to go before encroaching on the desert or Sudan, Aswan enjoys a slow pace of life and is home to many Nubians. Sights and activities abound and cruises on Lake Nasser to visit the monuments relocated on its shores are highly recommended.
