Tassia Lodge could well lay claim to being one of our favourite lodges in Africa. No internet, no phone reception, no tourists, just unfenced wilderness, wildlife and an unbridled sense of discovery.
Sitting dramatically on the crest of a rocky hill, each of the rooms are designed to take in the views, with completely open sided design, offering uninterrupted views of the wilderness and wildlife in the valley below. Martin and Antonia along with their brilliant Maasai guides are also some of the best hosts around, with a passion for the people and wildlife of the area that is instantly infectious. Martin was raised in the bush, a fantastic guide, falconer and paraglider, Antonia will keep you well fed, being a Leith's trained chef.
Both work incredibly closely with the local communities to ensure that Tassia provides a role model as to how communities and wildlife can live sustainably side by side and the Laikipia Maasai culture here is a huge part of the personality of the lodge. This is a wilderness retreat, offering the chance to do as much or as little as you please, so guests come to Tassia to switch off from the modern world and to tune in to their surroundings. Everyone at Tassia however is as grounded as they come and simply offer one of the last true great wilderness experiences left in Kenya.
Why We Like It.
The spectacular setting, the sense of space, the food, the hosts, the guides, their approach to all things safari – not to be missed.
