Hassan II Mosque, Casablanca, Morocco

Casablanca and Rabat

Start your holiday in Casablanca to avoid retracing your steps and take the chance to include some of the country’s less-visited cities.

Although not the prettiest of Morocco’s cities Casablanca is the modern, commercial centre of the country and has some of the best boutique shops and art galleries.

It is also home to Hassan II Mosque, with its tranquil waterside setting and space to house over 100,000 worshippers this ornate and impressive mosque, is one of the largest in the world. Nearby is the country’s capital city of Rabat, with its coastal location, tree-lined boulevards, colonial architecture and peaceful medina this gem of a city is often overlooked but has a rich history which is displayed in some of the many fascinating monuments.

Kate Hitchen

My travels were first inspired by my love of the UK, which I take as much pleasure in exploring as countries far and wide. For me, travel is all about the adventure, the people I meet and the food I sample along the way.

In fact, I am never happier than when I’m cycling, trekking or simply eating my way through a country! My heart and head regularly pull me east, notably to India but I may also be found wandering through the galleries and piazzas of Italy or daydreaming about fresh ceviche in the far west.

The excitement of travelling the world has always hugely appealed. Largely cemented from my first solo trip to Egypt and the Middle East. The crazy hustle and bustle of Cairo was a huge assault on the senses, scrambling through the claustrophobic tunnels of the Great pyramid took me out of my comfort zone and I was left humbled by the warm hospitality of the Nubian people in Aswan as we shared dinner together.
