Musandam, Oman

Northern Oman and Musandam

Musandam Peninsula is a remote enclave of the sultanate of Oman, separated by the east coast of the UAE.

Otherwise known as the ‘Norway of Arabia’ due to its sheer mountain scenery, small villages, narrow inlets (fjords) and blissful, deserted coves, this is a destination that people say is their true ‘secret escape’. Escape to mountain scenery, small villages, narrow inlets (fjords) and blissful, deserted coves. Its rugged mountains rise up to 2,100 metres above sea level and the coast, which juts into the Strait of Hormuz, has a spectacular fjord-like look.

Reaching Musandam used to be an arduous journey but now with much-improved roads, you can make it there in an easy three-hour drive from Dubai. Alternatively if touring Oman it is a six to seven-hour drive from Muscat or if preferred a short flight or overnight boat journey.

Relax in the Musandam Peninsula

Most visitors come here to escape from their busy lives or for some rest and relaxation after a tour of Oman. Musandam is truly a peaceful, secluded spot where the only sound you can hear is the gentle lapping of waves. However, if it’s not total tranquillity you are searching for there is a mind-boggling array of spirit-lifting diversions from cookery classes to canyoning.

The other reason people come to Musandam is to see the population of humpback dolphins. During a stay here it is easy to join a tour on a traditional dhow, to include a picnic lunch, wildlife watching and even kayaking, snorkelling and diving.

Katie Benden

The excitement of travelling the world has always hugely appealed. Largely cemented from my first solo trip to Egypt and the Middle East. The crazy hustle and bustle of Cairo was a huge assault on the senses, scrambling through the claustrophobic tunnels of the Great pyramid took me out of my comfort zone and I was left humbled by the warm hospitality of the Nubian people in Aswan as we shared dinner together.

Having travelled to different parts of the world over the years it never ceases to amaze me how you constantly learn and evolve from the adventures you experience. I adore working in an environment where I can share my passion for the world and discuss fascinating stories both from my experiences and that of our clients. In the past year I’ve delved into the wintery beauty of St Petersburg, trekked through the colourful desert in Jordan and sailed down the iconic Nile in Egypt.

Great guidance both before the trip and during. The guide advised us to change the itinerary around a bit due to our late arrival and it all worked very well
