Muscat
Muscat is a warm, welcoming city surrounded by rugged, mountainous peaks and the beautiful beaches of the Arabian Sea.
Spending time in the deserts of Oman is a must during any trip. Wahiba is easily reached from Muscat and is home to some smart camps such as Desert Nights so its desert with comforts but still allowing visitors to experience complete peace under the stars.
To travel off the beaten track to the Empty Quarter will let you discover your inner ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ while staying in supported isolation.
The deserts of Oman vary from the rolling sand seas of the Wahiba, with classic photogenic dunes of rich gold, to the flat stony Jiddat al Harasis in central Oman and the Rub al-Khali or ‘Empty Quarter’ further south, where individual mountains of sand rise from a flat desert and stretch endlessly across the border into Saudi Arabia. The ‘Wahiba Sands’ often described as a perfect example of a Sand Sea consists of large dunes running from North to South, some attaining a height of about 100 meters.
