A seasonal camp that only operates between June and November, Usangu offers exclusivity for anybody wanting a genuine wilderness experience. The camp has just four tents and each one comes with its own guide and vehicle, giving you complete flexibility.

Usangu Camp sits on the edge of the Usangu Wetlands, shaded by woodlands. Positioned close to the Douglas Bell Eco Research Station, the camp allows you to engage with the work and research projects taking place here. These range from telemetry tracking of predators to setting camera traps.

Why Do We Like Usangu?

This camp is perfect if you want to discover a relatively unexplored area of Ruaha and take part in hands-on conservation research.

Facilities

The camp consists of four spacious tents, each one positioned on a low wooden platform. All the tents have en-suite facilities and a shaded deck in front from which to admire the wetland landscape.

Activities

With a private vehicle and guide at your disposal, you have total freedom to explore the landscape of southern Ruaha. Activities include game drives, night drives, bush walks and boat safaris. There is also the option to join the researchers at the neighbouring Douglas Bell Eco Research Station or spend a night flycamping under just a mosquito net at the idyllic Trails Camp.

Location

The camp is located in the Usangu Wetlands, in the remote south of Ruaha National Park. The nearest airstrip, Jongomero, is around two hours’ drive away.
