An impressive national heritage factory building turned remote warehouse-style hotel, The Singular Patagonia rests on the shores of Last Hope Sound and offers a truly unique glimpse of Patagonian history.

Despite its distinctly “end of the world” feeling and rather austere exterior aesthetics, the property is startlingly warm and welcoming and doubles as a living museum. A colossal former industrial storehouse now houses a moody restaurant that centres around a crackling fireplace and entertaining open kitchen, and serves some of the most delicious and comforting fare in all of Patagonia.

Its 57 tasteful rooms are housed in a contrasting modern glass-fronted wing, and are flooded with light through 6-metre-wide picture windows that boast spectacular views over the sound and towards the distant Andes. The aromatherapy treatment and wellness spa, featuring a heated indoor-outdoor pool, is also situated in this light-filled wing and benefits from unparalleled fjord and glacier views.

Activities

From the property, guests can saddle up for a horseback ride around the archaeologically-dense Lake Sofia, take a half-day waterfront bicycle ride, join a cultural insight walking tour of Puerto Natales, kayak through Patagonian fjords in search of Chilean flamingos, or hop aboard a boat navigation to a nearby estancia to learn about their work with sheepdogs and wool farming.

Further afield, attempt the bucket-list ascent to the base of the Torres del Paine monoliths, or simply discover the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on foot with views to the Paine Massif and in search for elusive pumas and herds of guanacos.
