Elephant Camp is situated just 40 kilometres west of Victoria Falls on 14,000 hectares of privately owned wildlife estate. The camp accommodates a maximum of eight people in four thatched chalets.

It has a dining area, swimming pool and bar/patio area, all with sweeping views of the plains. Many of the activities here are about spending time with the camp’s elephants – be it game-viewing from their backs, picnicking with them on the estate, grooming, feeding and swimming with them, or just experiencing the pleasure of being so close to such magnificent animals.

Game drives, both at night and during the day, as well as guided walks, are available on the estate or in neighbouring Zambezi National Park.

This camp is ideally located for those who want to retain the safari feel but have the convenience of being close to the Victoria Falls. In fact, the falls are so close to Elephant Camp that their rising spray is almost always visible from the camp itself.

Victoria Falls Hotel £££££

For almost 100 years, visiting royals, international and local statesmen and celebrities worldwide have stayed at the Victoria Falls Hotel. Situated on a world heritage site overlooking the magnificent Victoria Falls, it is a 1904 colonial-style hotel, with distinctive white walls, red roof tiles and high ceilings. Its 161 rooms and suites are air-conditioned and have en-suite bathrooms with free-standing Victorian bathtubs and separate showers. Stanley’s Terrace is a perfect outdoor setting for snacks, high teas and cocktails overlooking the famous Victoria Falls Bridge which is just a 10-minute walk away.

This beautiful camp is spread along the banks of the Zambezi River, within a private game reserve. All suites face the Zambezi’s swirling waters, with Zambia behind. Colourfully decorated, the camp calls upon its Zimbabwean heritage, employing large amounts of wood that contrast with burnished copper. Matetsi is split into two intimate camps, together consisting of 18 suites, of which two are interleading family options. Each of the suites is decorated using local materials, blended perfectly with the modern, clean lines. All feature indoor and outdoor showers, private verandas and en-suite bathrooms. Available activities include game drives, boat cruises, canoe trips, walking safaris, birdwatching and fishing.
