Kasbah du Toubkal is a magnificent mountain retreat spectacularly situated in the heart of the High Atlas. Near the foot of Jebel Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa, it is only 40 miles from Marrakech but the peace and quiet and seclusion are so complete, the city seems a million miles away.

Berber run, the staff at the Kasbah delight in explaining their culture. In addition to the 17 rooms, there is a wonderful rooftop terrace, traditional hammam and a restaurant serving traditional Berber food.

Kasbah du Toubkal is a celebration of the Berber culture. From the team that look after you to the food on your table and the cool interior design, this property is Berber through and through. Renowned for the hospitality shown to visitors, you can expect your Berber hosts to provide an exceptional stay while you enjoy the spectacular views and ambience of the Atlas Mountains.

Facilities

The individually designed rooms are provided with locally crafted furniture and traditional handwoven Berber fabrics, including cosy wraps and soft slippers for relaxing by the wood-burning stoves on cool evenings. The property comprises of 14 comfortable rooms and 3 family rooms set amongst picturesque terraces and gardens overlooking the Atlas Mountains.

The garden house is perfect for a family takeover with three double en suite rooms. Kasbah du Toubkal has a rooftop terrace offering a spectacular 360-degree panorama. Take a walk around the local Berber village before returning to the Kasbah for a traditional hammam (Turkish bath). Food is prepared and served in a traditional, Berber fashion which means the hotel does not serve alcohol, although you are welcome to bring your own. Wi-fi is intermittent.

Sustainability

The Kasbah was built by the local villagers and remains a focal point for the surrounding Berber community. An allocated amount of what you pay to stay at the Kasbah is donated to the Village Association community projects, which to date has provided for an ambulance and a waste collection project. Kasbah Du Toubkal has launched Education For All, a non-profit organisation that helps girls in the rural High Atlas region to pursue higher education.

The Kasbah uses solar energy and filters water from the nearby spring to minimise the use of plastic water bottles.

Activities

The Berber people who work at the Kasbah will give you a warm welcome and a fascinating insight into their culture. Pack your walking boots and explore the local village, nearby hamlets and the surrounding mountain landscape. Or just put your feet up and relax on the terrace or in the traditional hammam (steam bath). If you wish to explore the Toubkal National Park in greater depth, stay overnight at the Kasbah’s sister property, the Trekking Lodge. Take a guided trek, high above the apple, cherry and almond trees to 2,450 metres above sea level for a spectacular picnic lunch.
