  • Watch the elephants of Amboseli roaming against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro
  • Explore the unspoilt landscapes of Meru National Park
  • Spot wildlife in the iconic Masai Mara – rich with plains game, big cats and birdlife

Take to the skies in a comfortable Cessna Grand Caravan and fly south to Amboseli National Park. Stay at the beautifully designed Tortilis Camp, with its stunning views of the surrounding grasslands. From here explore the private Kitirua Conservancy, as well as the remote western reaches of the park.

Led by Masai guides, take a dawn bush walk as the sun rises over a cloud-topped Kilimanjaro in the distance. Explore further afield in open safari vehicle, searching for the ambling elephant herds that roam this fertile landscape.

As well as these slow-moving animals, spot an array of faster predators. Look out for spotted hyenas and cheetahs, which hunt on these green plains. And admire the colourful birdlife that flits across from tree to bush.

Return to the skies and fly north to the wild vistas of Meru National Park. This remarkable tranche of wilderness is set against the backdrop of Mount Kenya. Too often overlooked, it is home to an array of wildlife, as well as fantastic scenery.

Stay at Elsa’s Kopje, named after the famous lioness that was raised here. This stylish retreat looks out over the plains and wetlands that lie below its raised location. Employing natural themes and immersed in wilderness, the camp combines luxury with an effortless warmth.

Spend time exploring during the day and at night, searching for game amongst the baobabs, kopjes and swamplands of Meru. Look out for rarer species, including caracals, lesser kudus and aardwolves.

From Meru, head west and to the plains of the Masai Mara. Stay at the Sand River Mara, which combines a traditional bush camp ambience with a beautifully tranquil location. Spread along the banks of the river, it is shaded by tree branches, with swimming hippos frequent passers-by.

Spend a full day exploring one of Africa’s greatest safari destinations. Drive across these fertile plains, which are alive with animals and birds. Watch prides of lions stalking prey, see young elephants joust with their tusks, admire a courting cheetahs frolicking in the grass and listen as a herds of gazelles scamper over dry earth that breaks beneath their hooves.

This journey offers an easy alternative to the hassle of scheduled flights, allowing travel in comfort and with flexibility, accompanied by just seven other passengers. It combines some of Kenya’s best safari locations with ease, making use of beautiful camps – all of which offer stunning views.

Set against the iconic backdrop of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli National Park is situated near the border of Kenya and Tanzania. Year round springs which filter down from the snows and glaciers of the mountain provide an excellent source of water for the numerous species of wildlife.

Amboseli is renowned for being one of the best places to see large numbers of free ranging elephant. Habitats range from open plains, acacia woodland, thick thorn-bush and swamps where the bird life is colourful and prolific.

Afternoon Game Drive
Set out on an afternoon game drive, led by an expert guide, in an open safari vehicle. The camp's western location guarantees seclusion, with most lodges positioned close to the park's eastern entrance. Also drive within Tortilis's private 30,000-acre Kitirua Conservancy, which adjoins the park.

Renowned for its magnificent elephants, Amboseli is one of the best places to get close to them. The park also offers spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Have the chance to photograph elephants, with the mountain in the background. As well as these impressive herds, spot numerous plains animals and the big cats that hunt them.

Identify tracks, watch dung beetles and learn about traditional uses for indigenous plants.

Afterwards, eat breakfast in the bush, before setting out on another game drive, returning to the camp for lunch.

Have some time to relax, then return to the safari vehicle later in the afternoon, taking a game drive as the shadows begin to lengthen. Made famous by the pioneering work of Joy and George Adamson Meru now ranks as one of the most rewarding and most overlooked park in the country. The big 5 are all found here in an area that is fed by a series of 13 streams, so a beautiful mix of grassland, woodland and uncrowded wilderness hide a handful of excellent lodges providing exceptional game viewing in a refreshingly wild environment.

Travel from Meru to Masai Mara (Air Transfer Journey)

The Masai Mara is an iconic safari destination. Famous for countless wildlife documentaries, the wildlife viewing here remains the best in Africa. Over the course of a few days, it is possible to see almost every animal indigenous to the region, with notable highlights being the well-established prides of big cats and the annual migration of zebra and wildebeest, one of the world's most spectacular wildlife events.

There is always something to see and every month can offer spectacular wildlife drama - the open plains and endless skies are a photographer's dream.

Adjoining the Serengeti in Tanzania and forming the northern end of the great migration ecosystem, this is the traditional land of the Maasai people. A visit also offers a chance to encounter this nomadic tribe, who offer a fascinating cultural dimension to the area.

Everybody has an opinion on the Mara, but it remains the best place in Africa for consistently superb big game viewing and should not be missed.
