Set in stunning forest scenery Kalaw Hill Lodge has 32 rooms, architecturally influenced by the local mud-house style and all with breath-taking views of the Shan Plateau.

The Lodge has an intimate and homely feel, complete with roaming chickens and the organic garden provides most of the food for the restaurant. Additional facilities include a wellness centre offering yoga and meditation.

Community is key to this hotel, with 10% of all profits donated to projects in the local area. Tree planting to protect the surrounding pine forests happens daily with guest interaction and 80% of all staff are local.

Activities

This area has lots of short hiking trails and mountain bike tracks. Longer trekking options also include an overnight trek linking Kalaw Hill Lodge with Inle Lake.

Take a walk around the grounds, feed the cattle and try your hand at milking the cows, the Burmese way. There are community organic gardens which can be visited by horse back or ox cart as well as a local Buddhist monastery. There are also organised treks to tribal villages to witness rice and plum wine production.

Yoga and meditation is also available at the lodge.
