Sri Lanka in January is generally sunny and dry on the west and south coasts, and in the Cultural Triangle. The east and north may still experience lingering showers from the monsoon, but this is an ideal time for beach stays and wildlife experiences. Relax on one of the many beautiful south coast beaches, explore ancient sites in Sigiriya, enjoy a scenic train ride through the hill country, or experience the thrill of a wildlife safari in Yala National Park. Clear, low-humidity skies from December to March offer excellent natural light for photography. January falls within the peak season for travel, so early accommodation booking is essential. Expect higher prices in tourist hotspots.
