Kotor with its backdrop of Boka Bay makes a great place to wander around. Kotor has one of the best preserved medieval towns in the Adriatic and itself is a world heritage site. Kotor Old Town sits deep in the heart of the bay, right on the water. Aside from the gelato and lively restaurants, the town’s attractions include the maritime museum, Saint Tryphon’s Cathedral, Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church and the Cats Museum – the unofficial symbol of the city.
Do expect daily tour groups visiting as part of their itinerary, so head to the quieter North Gate end of the city for an authentic fish suppers.
Driving from Kotor Bay towards Lovcen National Park is extremely beautiful, as Boka Bay unfolds below. Accompanied by a guide enjoy a morning hike. The mountains in this region are crisscrossed with hiking paths and biking trails, mostly following old packhorse tracks. The views of Skadar Lake, Kotor bay and the surrounding mountains are out of this world.
The Durmitor National Park is home of the impressive Tara River Canyon. To give it perspective it is 1300 metres deep, Arizona’s Grand Canyon is only 200 metres deeper. This natural formation is best viewed from the water. Rafting along the river is a highlight of this holiday. Rafting in the summer months can be easily geared for all ages.
Walking or kayaking the ancient city walls is a great way to spend the afternoon before flip-flopping into any one of the chic cocktail bars to watch the sun go down on your holiday. Try 360 Dubrovnik for supper before wandering back to the hotel.
