Luxury Lake Kariba Cruise and Mana Pools Camp

Water and wildlife in Northern Zimbabwe

10 days

from £8,195pp (excluding flights)

Safari in style; experience the bare-foot luxury of the Matusadona Cruiser and the tented indulgence of Ruckomechi Camp. Wildlife spotting fills the agenda as this tour of Lake Kariba and Mana Pools takes in some of Zimbabwe’s greatest natural landscapes.

  • See the results of the biblically inspired Operation Noah - thriving populations of lions, elephants and buffaloes
  • Experience the colourful birdlife of Lake Kariba, rivalled only by the riches of the Okovango Delta
  • Spot hippopotamuses and crocodiles amidst the flood plains of Mana Pools National Park

Sail the tranquil waters of Lake Kariba – the world’s largest manmade reservoir. Set in an area rich with animal life, this unique habitat was preserved thanks to the remarkable work done during Operation Noah, a 1950s wildlife rescue project. Have the chance to experience and revel in the area’s numerous game-spotting opportunities; see the thriving populations of lions, elephants and buffaloes – all relocated on a biblical scale.

The Matusadona Safari Cruiser offers barefoot luxury amidst wildlife-rich vistas. Blend the relaxed ambience of a river cruise with safari-style wildlife spotting, beside Africa’s second largest concentration of wild lions – the Matusadona National Park. Overhead, the region’s birdlife swirls in colourful cacophony, chorusing its approval of this vast watery habitat. Rivalled only by Botswana’s Okovango Delta, Lake Kariba abounds with avifauna.

Leave the boat-based adventures of Lake Kariba behind for the flood plains and tented luxury of Mana Pools. Shaded by acacia and mahogany trees, Ruckomechi Camp offers sweeping vistas of the Zambezi River. Swathed in comfort and indulgence, the camp embraces its wild locale, without succumbing to its rustic ways.

Acting as a natural overflow for the mighty Zambezi, Mana Pools’ broad expanse is caught in a never-ending watery cycle of deluge and dearth. As the flood waters recede, thirsty animals flock to the ponds and lakes that dot the open savannah. Seize the chance to spot the impressive array of wildlife that these vital liquid reserves attract. Hippopotamuses and crocodiles relish this watery landscape, whilst elephants and buffaloes arrive in their droves, eager to sate their thirst.

Jackie Devereux, Travel Expert

"Every part of our trip was the highlight and it is not possible for us to point out just one thing, event or place."

"However, we received a magnificent surprise of a helicopter ride between camps in Botswana which meant a flight over the delta and an opportunity to see the delta and how it is formed. It was a wonderful surprise organised by Jackie and we were both absolutely overjoyed with the opportunity. I do not believe that there was more that could have been done as we had a magnificent trip."

"Jackie was excellent- she listened and was very knowledgeable."
