Tailor-Made Holiday

Zimbabwe - Hwange National Park & Victoria Falls

Highlights of Zimbabwe - White water and wildlife

9 days

from £2,995pp (excluding flights)

Zimbabwe is making a comeback - hardly surprising seeing as it is one of the best wildlife destinations in Africa. Steppes Travel supported Zimbabwean safari and conservation companies through the rough times and we are delighted that we can now introduce more travellers to this amazing country. This safari offers a privileged insight into the game rich, spectacular north.

  • Cruise the mighty Zambezi as the sun sets and the elephants bathe
  • Rediscover the famous Victoria Falls
  • Walk amongst the matriarchal herds of Hwange elephant
  • View elusive nocturnal wildlife on night drives

The great thing about visiting a county ‘on the up’ is the fact that you get to see great things without the masses.

Victoria Falls is an inspirational place to start a holiday. Not only for the "smoke that thunders" but also for the town itself, which is a meeting place of many cultural artists.

The newly opened Zambezi Sands lies downstream of the falls and is accessed by boat or road. Directly situated on the river, this very comfortable tented camp offers all the delights of the Zambezi. Days are spent on board a small outboard, in a canoe, on foot or atop a safari vehicle to fish, view and wonder. The camp is situated in the Zambezi National Park enabling a feel of isolation.

Camelthorn Lodge is situated in Hwange, an interesting 4 hour drive from Victoria Falls although a 1 hour flight is also possible. The lodge is nestled in an ancient woodland in the private Ngamo concession offering exposure to characteristic northern Zimbabwe wilderness. Wildlife abounds and this area is a birders' paradise. Days are spent with professional and enthusiastic guides on foot and in vehicles. The underground blind or hide in the camp offers quiet visitors the exceptional opportunity to sit amongst the great resident elephant herds, safe but within arm’s length.

The town of Victoria Falls lies on the southern bank of the Zambezi River at the western end of the Victoria Falls. Although the magnificent sight of the falls is the main reason to visit, the town is also a focal point for action-packed fun with activities including the glorious "Flight of Angels" helicopter ride over the falls, white water river rafting, kayaking, bungee jumping, elephant back safaris and gentle sundowner cruises along the Zambezi.

After visiting the falls, why not take high tea on the terrace of the iconic Victoria Falls Hotel or embark on a helicopter flight to see things from another perspective. Curio shopping here is also a big highlight.

"Bridget had a great knowledge of the areas being looked at and given I have spent time in both countries, it required someone who completely understood the type of camps preferred."

Jackie Devereux, Travel Expert

"Every part of our trip was the highlight and it is not possible for us to point out just one thing, event or place."

"However, we received a magnificent surprise of a helicopter ride between camps in Botswana which meant a flight over the delta and an opportunity to see the delta and how it is formed. It was a wonderful surprise organised by Jackie and we were both absolutely overjoyed with the opportunity. I do not believe that there was more that could have been done as we had a magnificent trip."

"Jackie was excellent- she listened and was very knowledgeable."
