What to expect on your Zanzibar holiday
Zanzibar Island, known locally as Unguja, is 60 miles long and 20 miles wide, is characterised by beautiful sandy beaches with fringing coral reefs, making it a perfect romantic honeymoon destination. The magic of historic Stone Town which is said to be the only functioning ancient town in East Africa, is a true African historical gem.
Once the trading centre for East Africa, Zanzibar’s history as a hub for the Spice Route is visible in its architecture, and its rich Swahili heritage adds an exotic charm. The sensual beauty of the island makes it perfect for relaxation, inspiration and revival of the spirit.
A trip to Zanzibar can also be combined with a migration safari in Kenya or Tanzania or Gorilla safari in Uganda or Rwanda at the beginning of your holiday. With several international airlines that fly in and out of Zanzibar, access is relatively easy.
The best time to visit is during the dry months of June to October. November and December are great too, but have short rains, which are light and so should not hinder your beach experience.
