Where to travel to next

Life is what happens when you are busy making plans. The truth is that in a life without plans nothing happens. We need to fight those blues, to pursue our dreams, we need to look forward.

So let’s go there. Let’s make plans. Let’s feel that feeling again, that rush of excitement as you and we search and imagine… travel. Let’s wander to that place of wonder. Throw a dart. Save a date. Make a plan.

When’s it right for you, we are here.

No quarantine required in destination or on return to the UK

Turkey

Turkey takes the top spot on our list of places to visit right now. In a recent article in The Times, Chris Haslam wrote that “the strictly enforced measures taken to beat the virus induce a sense of wellbeing and optimism long absent in the UK”. With the pound up almost 25% against the Turkish Lira, compared to this time last year, you can also be sure of exceptional value. Head to the Turquoise Coast for half-term sunshine and kayak over the sunken city of Kekova.

In fact, three of our team are there right now…

Italy

One of our most experienced travel experts, James Armitage, has just returned from a week exploring Sicily – his verdict: “wall to wall sunshine, exceptional food and fascinating history and culture around every corner”. James recommends self-drive in Sicily flying into Palermo and out of Catania while our other top tip is to visit Puglia and stay at the converted castle, Castello di Ugento. Both regions are in the far south of Italy so perfect for late sunshine.

St Lucia

On the UK government’s green list and viewed as one of the world’s safest and friendliest countries, St Lucia is the perfect bolthole right now. Our favourite hotels are Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain, both of which are operating all on-site activities such as kayaking, jungle walking and snorkelling. Fly directly with BA and take advantage of their most recent World Sale.

Open to tourism

However still on the UK’s red list

For some, the quarantine on return to the UK is not such an inconvenience. You may want to consider a holiday to one of the following destinations, all of which are now open to tourism. By travelling you will be doing your bit to provide much-needed revenue to local communities and the money you spend will go a long way to help support national parks and to protect endangered wildlife. You are guaranteed a very warm welcome.

Kenya

Wildebeest in their thousands are crossing the Kenyan and Tanzanian border daily, without the need for visa or COVID test. The migration is one of the natural world’s most captivating spectacles but is sometimes criticised for the large numbers of tourists it attracts. Not so, right now. Kenya is not on the UK’s green list so you’ll need to quarantine on your return but you’ll need this long to sort through your collection of photographs without another tourist vehicle in site.

Recently opening their borders to tourism, Costa Rica’s national parks and beaches offer the perfect antidote to winter in the UK. Either sit back and enjoy the view or take advantage of the multitude of activities that Costa Rica offers, from trekking up a volcano to zip-wiring into your hotel. BA are resuming direct flights to San Jose at the end of October and are currently offering excellent fares in their World Sale.
