Notably, this itinerary often ventures on to land in hopes of discovering the history of the ancient islands through traditional feasts, local music and dancing. Drift on the Olowalu Reef

In ancient times, the community of Olowalu on the west of the island of Maui was known throughout the Hawaiian Islands as a place of sanctuary, or pu’u honua. Today, it is home to one of the most unique ocean reef systems in all the Hawaiian Islands, known locally as Turtle Reef. Snorkel in this sea turtle habitat among hundred-year-old coral gardens that are swarming with an abundance of tropical marine life and sail through the Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, a designated expanse of shallow warm waters. Learn from the guides about one of the world’s most important protected marine habitats, and search for humpback whales, spinner dolphins, Hawaiian monk seals.

Night Snorkel with Giant Manta Rays

Located on the south-western shoreline of Hawaii’s Big Island, Honomalino Bay is a scenic clear-water gem that is rarely frequented by crowds. Fringed by coconut palms, the bay is teeming with a diversity of colourful corals, sponges, and tropical fish. Anchor at an offshore location for a thrilling night-time snorkelling adventure with giant manta rays. As these gentle giants congregate to feed on the tiny plankton that swarm the bright lights of the boat, don a wetsuit and snorkel to observe this magnificent underwater show from the surface.

Hike Gorges & Coastlines

For any ambitious ramblers (without a fear of heights!), extend your time in Hawaii before or after the cruise and travel to Kauai to embark on the 11-mile-long Kalalau Trail, a steep track that cuts through five of the park’s valleys, to reach Kalalau Beach. Perhaps camping for a night or two at Kalalau or Hanakoa in the embrace of an ancient rain-etched valley, intrepid explorers can experience a once-in-a-lifetime slumber under a blanket of stars accompanied by the restorative echoes of the nearby crashing ocean. Those who crave a gentler view of the island’s dramatic coast, or who desire to see the real-life movie scene in all its glory, can absorb the epic landscape from a birds’ eye view in an exhilarating helicopter flight.
