Russia’s largest city and its capital, Moscow is a modern metropolis with a medieval core. At its heart is the Kremlin, an iconic symbol of Russia which sits alongside the coloured domes of the spectacular St Basils Cathedral.
Spend three nights in the city with plenty of time to explore the highlights, from Red Square to the Tretyakov Gallery before boarding the Volga Dream to begin cruising.
TOWNS OF THE GOLDEN RING
Depart Moscow and spend a day cruising through forested countryside before arriving at the Golden Ring town of Uglich. Over the next three days explore the ancient churches and monasteries of these traditional Russian towns. From Uglich cruise to Yaroslavl and lastly Goritsy.
On day eight of your journey approach the island of Kizhi, home to a collection of charming wooden houses and windmills plus the ancient Transfiguration Church which was famously built in 1714 without using a single nail. The island itself sits amidst the spectacular watery wilderness of Kareliya which stretches from St Petersburg to the Arctic Circle and is dotted with 1,369 islands.
Before arriving in St Petersburg cruise the 139-mile-long Svir River, a peaceful and picturesque stretch of water. Visit the village of Mandrogi to learn about traditional crafts before continuing to St Petersburg. Spend three days exploring this fascinating and romantic city. Take in the gardens and fountains of Peterhof, the treasures of the Hermitage Museum and Catherine the Greats Palace, to name a few.
