I was born in Zimbabwe. With a dad who was in the police force, we moved from place to place. I have always been passionate about travel. My grandparents mentioned that our ancestors set off from the Horn of Africa – Ethiopia – looking for better cattle pastures. They ended up settling in the south-eastern hills of Zimbabwe, in the Great Zimbabwe area.

My best childhood memories were when we lived in the Kariba. Our neighbours were elephants and hippos. I grew up surrounded by wildlife hence the passion for wildlife. While Africa is my first option, I love to travel because I am naturally a curious human being who loves to explore new areas. I have also enjoyed travelling to France, Switzerland, Germany and Portugal for the culture, adventure, language and food, rather than the wildlife.

Skeleton Coast Flying Safari

The remotest place I have been is the Skeleton Coast on the western side of Namibia bordering the Atlantic Ocean. I did a three-night flying safari with the Andre Schoeman. Three words to describe this trip are a thrill, adventure and total solitude. This part of Namibia is less explored and has stunning landscapes, adventure and desert wildlife.

Why visit Kafue National Park?

Kafue is one of my favourite parks in Africa. It is quite often overlooked. It is an undiscovered gem with its immense space and fantastic wildlife. For those looking for off the beaten track then this park is the best.

Great Zimbabwe

Great Zimbabwe has the most extensive collection of ruins south of the Sahara, second only to the pyramids of Egypt. My ancestors, the Karanga were from this area. People in this area have a different dialect. I remember as we were growing up that my mother and her family, being Zezuru, found my Dad’s Karanga’s accent very strange. Great Zimbabwe is a great place to explore if you would like to know a bit more about the Karanga tribe.

My Favourite Experiences

Balloon flight in Masai Mara National Park

I took to the skies – floating above one of Africa’s wilderness area the Masai Mara National Park. Experiencing the quiet sounds of this incredible wilderness with soft calls of birds and gazing down upon a vast herd of wildebeests, elephants and zebras moving across the open plains.

Canoeing down the Zambezi

Canoeing down the Zambezi, Africa’s fourth longest river after the Nile and Congo Rivers, from the Kariba Dam wall to the World Heritage Site of Mana Pools.

Climbed Africa’s highest peak Kilimanjaro

One of the toughest mountains I have ever climbed. It took me eight nights of hiking to reach the summit.
