Kanha National Park in India offers good sightings in prime tiger country, with elegant five star camping at Banjaar Tola, a luxury tented lodge deep in the wilderness.
Situated along the banks of the Rapti River lies Chitwan National Park – A World Heritage Site. Since the closure of the lodges situated inside Chitwan the options for quality wildlife experiences were limited. With the opening of Taj Safaris in a quieter location at Meghauli village, the bar has been raised again. Excellent sightings of rhino and gharial have been reported from the property. Taj offer two daily safaris in Taj designed 4x4 vehicles driven by your &Beyond naturalist – far more ergonomic than the standard gypsies. Apart from jeep safari, Chitwan offers walking and elephant back safari. Be thrilled when sighting a one horned rhino or other animals at close quarters. The Rapti River is slow flowing, and lends itself to floating down by traditional Tharu canoe. The local Tharu village welcomes visitors.
The densely forested hills of sal and bamboo combined with grassy plateaus and extensive meadows in the valleys make an attractive setting for a safari. The sheer size and remoteness also means that Kanha is often less busy than other parks and now that vehicle numbers are limited and advance booking is recommended, it offers a superior safari experience. Kanha is home to barasingha, chital, wild boar, sloth bears, jungle cats, wild dogs, leopards and the Bengal tiger.
