Tors, rivers, wildlife & food

Richard Drysdale escaped London 20 years ago to pursue his dream of living and working on Dartmoor. Since then, he has worked for Dartmoor National Park Authority and Devon Wildlife Trust and when not scouting new cycling trails, you’ll find him halfway up a tor or wild swimming somewhere on the moor. A day with Richard on Dartmoor will give you an insight into the history of the region as well as current conservation and rewilding initiatives. He knows the best places for a quiet picnic, the best scenic spots for a photograph, the best stretches of river to choose for a private wild swim, and the best pub to visit for a pint of his favourite Dartmoor Legend.

Private Tour of Chavenage

The Cotswolds is dotted with countless country houses, but few have as many accompanying stories as Chavenage House. Famed for its appearance in Poldark, this 16th-century manor house retains many of its original features.

Take a private tour of the house, led by one of the members of the Lowsley-William family, who have owned the house since 1891. Learn about its rich history, including its role in the English Civil War, as well as the ensuing ghost stories.

After the tour, relax on the lawns for afternoon tea. Or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, take a guided e-bike tour of the local area. This will include the idyllic Kingscote Valley – another backdrop to many TV productions.

Explore on two wheels

The Cotswold hills hide a wealth of tiny lanes that beg to be explored. And there is no better way than by bicycle.

Begin with a private tour of Rodmarton Manor then head north across the Sapperton Valley, stopping to briefly visit the abandoned canal tunnel and search for butterflies. Arrive at Miserden in time for lunch, with time to explore the beautiful gardens and nursery.

Continue east towards the Chedworth and Yanworth valleys. These bucolic landscapes are at their most beautiful in the late afternoon light, making them the perfect place to finish.
