Your journey begins in Kazakhstan in the verdant city of Almaty, surrounded by the stunning Tien Shan Mountains. Once onboard the Golden Eagle, journey to Uzbekistan’s capital city of Tashkent and onwards to the ancient Silk Route cities of Samarkand and Bukhara, home to some incredible Islamic architecture. The train will weave its way through Central Asia crossing into Turkmenistan, and the ancient oasis city of Merv, as well as the Karakum Desert where the Darvaza crater burns.

Return to Uzbekistan to spend more time exploring this fascinating country and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Khiva before a day relaxing on board the train as you travel through the vastness of Kazakhstan enroute to Russia.

The Golden Eagle Train embarks on the worlds longest train journey from Moscow. This rail adventure is a must-do for any train aficionados. The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian chugs past Lake Baikal before reaching Vladivostok via Ulan Bataar (Mongolia). Alternatively, board the Trans-Mongolian journey arriving into Ulaan Baatar in time to celebrate the Naadam Festival. The Golden Eagle plays host to many interesting Guest Speakers who travel on board delivering a series of informed lectures.

When to travel

Due to the varying landscapes across the region there can be dramatic changes in the climate. In general, the best time to visit is Spring and Autumn, between April and June and again from September to late October when days are dry and temperatures warm. Winters can be bitterly cold and summers dry and extremely hot.
