Eastern Bhutan

The area is very densely populated and roads between towns are rugged and tough but exploring this part of the country is definitely worth the challenge, as it is home to some of the most beautiful, remote and isolated valleys and local ethnic groups.

Accommodation and standard of living are very different from that of the western regions. The small selection of hotels that exist do so on a basic level, and the cuisine is not up to much, but it does try and incorporate as much local produce as possible, which mainly includes home-brewed Arra or rice wine and green chillies.

The Eastern province of Bhutan offers a vast comparison to the more traveller-friendly areas in the west including Paro and Thimphu but the remoteness is beautiful and offers a contrasting viewpoint into life in a different region in Bhutan.
