The Spanish region of Andalucia is rich in contrast and home to everything that is quintessentially Spanish.
Andalucia conjures up images of colourful fiestas, passionate flamenco dancers, tapas and chilled sherry, clear blue skies and glorious sunshine. Its coastline of golden sands boasts more than 3,000 hours of sunshine every year.
Andalucia is located in Southern Spain fringed by the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and the Strait of Gibraltar, which separates Spain from Morocco.

Historical Andalucia
Successive invaders have left their mark on Andalucia, most notably the Moors who ruled here for almost eight centuries. The monuments left in their wake represent some of Spain’s greatest architectural heritage. The Alhambra, described as ‘the most sensual building in Europe’, is a definite must see. While the Mezquita, Cordobas’ great mosque, Seville’s Royal Palace and La Giralda, the tower adjoining the city’s huge Gothic cathedral, are examples of the architectural brilliance of the North African conquerors.

Seville
Seville or Sevilla as the locals know it is a captivating city by day and tremendously atmospheric at night. Whether visiting some of the cities historical monuments and grand palaces or just sitting in a bar with a selection of tapas, sipping a cold glass of sangria and watching the world go by, this is a city with a large array on offer for travellers. The old Jewish quarter, Barrio Santa Cruz, is a myriad of cobbled backstreets, lined with traditional tapas bars and restaurants often opening out onto a small plaza draped with colourful bougainvillaea where locals come to sit under the shade of an orange tree.
The area is also home to one of our favourite boutique hotels, Hacienda de San Rafael. Located about forty minutes’ drive from the city centre, it makes a perfect base for your holiday from which to explore all the Seville has to offer along with the many local olive groves, vineyards, beaches and villages in the area.
