One of the country’s smallest parks, Kasanka has become renowned for the magnificent fruit bat migration that takes place here.
These straw-coloured fruit bats begin to flood the park with the arrival of the rains, peaking during November, when Kasanka’s trees and skies are filled with millions of these winged mammals.
Richly forested with evergreen woodlands, Kasanka is also home to large numbers of birds and a variety of cold-blooded species. The widest variety of birdlife occurs within the park’s miombo forests, which are home to sunbirds, flycatchers, creepers, thrushes, cuckoos and many other varieties.

25 years ago, my first trip to Africa took on a life of its own. I planned for three months, I stayed for two years. Whilst there, I was mistaken for a priest, attacked by sharks and arrested. My recent trips are undoubtedly more comfortable, but the welcome is as warm as ever and the best experiences are still those I never see coming.
