Torres del Paine over Pehoe Lake in Chile

Torres del Paine

Torres del Paine National Park is the rugged, windswept jewel of Chile, set magnificently at the eastern spur of the Andes and on the southernmost tip of the Patagonia Ice Cap.

Most famously, the three impossibly steep pinnacles, after which this park is named, stand defiantly beneath the jagged Los Cuernos del Paine (2,600m) and the tallest tower in the massif, Paine Grande (3,050m).

A little more about Torres del Paine

Declared a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 1978, Torres del Paine National Park shelters a fragile ecosystem of fauna including guanacos, rheas, foxes, nandus, condors and flamingos. Electric blue icebergs float on vividly coloured lakes of turquoise and aquamarine, among them Lago Grey and Lago Paine, while golden beech forests cling to the base of colossal granite pinnacles rising up to pierce the sky.
