Newfoundland and Labrador

Why Visit

Home to the Inuit and their predecessors for thousands of years, you can experience their culture and hospitality along with the humour and storytelling of the Irish, French and English influenced Newfies who speak a language of their own. You can be assured of a warm welcome, a good yarn and some great music and it’s closer than you think.

About Newfoundland and Labrador

Labrador & Newfoundland is sparsely populated with 181,000, a third of the population, living in the capital St Johns, offering a huge diversity of scenery from Arctic Tundra, mountains, and fjords to quaint fishing villages. The Torgnat Mountains National park offers nearly 10,000 square kilometres of wilderness with no roads and no signs telling you where to go or what to see, just acres of space to explore.  Polar Bears inhabit the northern regions and you can encounter black bears and moose as you head further south.

  • See some of the world’s oldest rock formations, a geologist's delight
  • Sail into the solitude of the Nachvak Fjord
  • See Polar Bears & Black bears often on the same day
  • Visit Fogo Island believed to be one of the “corners of the world” according to the Flat Earth Society
  • See ancient Paleo-Eskimo tent rings, abandoned Monrovian missions and remnants of traditional turf houses
  • Visit an ancient Viking Settlement at L’Anse aux Meadows with a reconstructed Viking village at Norstead
  • Join one of our expedition vessels to circumnavigate Newfoundland and the Labrador coast

Beyond the Ordinary

Ramah Chert is a rare semi- translucent rock that has been used for stone tool making for around 7000 years. In the bays around Saglek Fiord to Nachvak you can still find these exquisitely made tools close to the ancient tent rings from arrow heads to micro- blades and piles of flakes.
