The Grenadines holidays

At just 18 square kilometres, Bequia is a tiny patchwork of green hills, golden beaches and blue shores. The diving in the area is particularly spectacular – it’s certainly worth weaving it into your itinerary.

The island of Bequia (pronounced Bek-way) is part of St Vincent and the Grenadines and is the second-largest of the islands. A small bohemian island, of just 18 square kilometres, the population consists of largely African, Scottish and Carib descent.

The capital, Port Elizabeth, is a busy port where you will find the whaling museum, bustling markets and craft stores. Delve further into the island and you are immediately amongst lush hills, beautiful golden beaches and secluded bays flanked by coconut palms and turquoise waters.

This delightful island is part of St Vincent and the Grenadines and with no direct flight it doesn’t see as many annual visitors as some of its more well-known neighbours, and that is why we love it. Beautiful beaches, characterful dining, yacht charters, maritime history and whether you are looking for affordable barefoot luxury at Bequia Plantation Hotel or opulence and sophistication at The Liming, there is something for everyone. Bequia combines brilliantly with Saint Lucia giving your holiday to the Caribbean both soft adventure and relaxation.

Why we like the Grenadines

The Grenadines are world renowned for their beaches and Bequia is no exception. In fact, it is rather special. No traffic lights, no neon signs, no golf. There are no direct flights either. A yachting mecca, but protected from mass tourism, Bequia is a delight.

The Grenadines: What to Expect

Steppes Travel has selected two lovely properties to ensure an exclusive and spoiling stay on Bequia. The beach-front Bequia Plantation Hotel offers breathtaking views from cottages huddled amongst the scented flowers and coconut trees. Whereas, The Liming promises a new concept of relaxation. Discover the art of doing nothing in one of The Liming’s exquisite one to five-bedroom villas and enjoy your own private infinity pool and scenic views of the island. Life, as you might expect, moves fairly slowly on the island and days are spent simply exploring the beautiful beaches, superb local restaurants, pleasant bars and soaking up a truly West Indies vibe.
