- Zip line, abseil and cross the sky on a Tibetan bridge in the amazing Yungas Valley, the highest via ferrata in the world

This Bolivia honeymoon begins with some rest and acclimatisation in Santa Cruz and La Paz before the adventure starts. Spend a day getting to know La Paz, a unique city sitting in a valley of the Andes mountain. Wander the Witches’ market, take in the colonial buildings around the main square and ride the cable car that stretches across the city. Head out to the nearby hills for a different view of the city; try some rock climbing before returning in the evening for a meal at Gusto, a Claus Meyer restaurant.
Visit Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake, a beautiful place to take in rural Andean life. The market in the small town of Copacabana is fascinating and a wonderful place to immerse yourself in everyday Bolivian life. Take a private boat tour on the lake, stopping for a trek along the terraces of Sun Island to visit the Inca Palace and, on nearby Moon Island, the temple of the sun. On a clear day views are stunning across the lake with snow-capped mountains in the distance.
Trek to the base of Huayna Potosi, a 6,088 metre snow-capped mountain in the Cordillera Real, before returning to find a special camp set up for the night. Wake in the morning to watch the sunrise over the Andes mountains; a breath-taking experience.
For the real adrenaline junkies, the two days in the cloud forest will be the highlight. Downhill bike to the town of Coroico, travelling from snowy mountains to the warm cloud forest. An exhilarating ride along a mountain road, known as the ‘death road’. If that wasn’t enough, abseil down a mountain, then walk across the sky on a Tibetan Bridge (three wires in a triangular shape) before climbing a cliff on a via ferrata route of iron steps and fly 100 metres through the air on a zipline. Being Bolivia this is, of course, the world’s highest zipline.
A honeymoon in Bolivia wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the country’s most iconic site, the Salar de Uyuni salt flats. Cross the huge, dazzling expanse of salt by 4x4 before spending the night glamping on the edge of Isla Pescado. An unforgettable experience as there will be no-one else around, Steppes has access to the only glamping company in Bolivia. Hike to the top of Tunupa Volcano on the northern edge of the salt flats for an incredible view of the entire expanse.
End the trip crossing one of the most remote and stunning landscapes on earth, the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve; an area with coloured lagoons, geysers, rock deserts, hot springs and volcanoes.
If at the end of all that action and adventure a little R&R is required, Chile’s Atacama Desert is the perfect place with a great selection of amazing properties in which to stay and reflect on the last two weeks.
